Measure the area that you'd like the wall to cover (if between furniture: rug should be just big enough to go under the front leg of all large pieces or have no legs on the rug to show more of the floor. For dining areas, push out your chairs like someone is sitting on them and take that measurement or compromise for smaller rooms (at least 1/2 the chair should be on the rug).
Choose a shape - any shape: traditional rectangle or round or round the corners - or even pick any sculptural shape you like. You can even have a rug with your corporate logo on it to welcome your office's visitors or a sports emblem rug in your media room.
Choose the main part of the rug (Natural, Synthetic, Wood Blend)
Choose your border or multi-borders (accent color, pattern should be the same thickness of the main rug) or bind your edges with materials like leather or grosgrain.
Choose your design (simple border, multi-border, shapes)
