Rock Crystal Chandeliers

November - 2011

Rock crystal is as old as the Earth, a rare quartz prized through the ages by emperors, conquerors and collectors. Every rock crystal is unique in the universe. Fissures, inclusions and crystalline explosions form a completely individual fingerprint in the clear quartz. Authentic rock crystal may be identified by hand as well as eye. It is mysteriously cool to the touch in any weather.

Top left: Renaissance - Amazing things happen when Schonbek mixes ancient rock crystal gemstones, clear crystal and colored crystal, as in this Renaissance crystal chandelier. The crystal jewels and gemstones ornament an ornate framework with authentic seventeenth-century styling. The colors of the colored crystal, not easy to see on the Web, are Olivine and Smoke Topaz Jewel Tones™. Seeing this design up close and in person is worth a trip to Dulles Electric. Top right: Versailles - Called Versailles, but, it’s a contemporary reinterpretation of the seventeenth-century chandelier style born in the Versailles court in the reign of Louis XIV. The ornate scrollwork and open cage construction are authentic to the period, as is the lavish display of crystal. Drops, rosettes and finial sphere of rock crystal are classic. So is the dramatic rock crystal spike at the center of the chandelier. But the chains studded with rock crystal rosettes are a twenty-first-century inspiration. Every rock crystal gemstone is painstakingly hand carved and hand polished..

Bottom left: Timbrel - This minimalist chandelier has the energy of dance, with its swooping arms and soaring scrolls. Timbrel is ornamented with restraint, but every ornament is unique in the world: an authentic handcarved rock crystal gemstone. Rock crystal droplets are suspended from Florentine leaves which attach to the chandelier not by conventional hooks but by whimsical hand-hammered curlicues. Candles are supported by tiny floral lead crystal bobeches. The finial is an oversized rock crystal sphere of infinite mystery.

Bottom right: Hamilton - You'll want this astonishing crystal chandelier for the beauty of its semi-precious gemstone ornaments: genuine amethyst quartz and rose quartz. Then a second look will reveal yet more beauties in the design: the gracefully undulating crystal center column, the hand-formed crystal arms, the brilliant STRASS® Swarovski® Crystal ornaments. This particular rendition of Hamilton has wonderfully elaborate crystal candleholders.

Dulles Electric in Sterling, Virginia is the largest Schonbek® showroom in the United States. Their expert staff of lighting designers can help you with your selection or custom chandelier.
